Mark has been a partner with TC Young since 1987. During that time he has worked with a large number of housing associations, charities and other voluntary sector organisations. Mark is accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as a specialist in charity law, the only accredited specialist in charity law in the West of Scotland.
He is lead legal advisor for the Princess Royal Trust for Carers which is a significant UK national charity and represents a number of other charities operating on a UK basis. He also acted in the creation of the Scottish Drugs Recovery Consortium which has been promoted by the Scottish Government as a key element in its drugs strategy.
Mark also has regular involvement with community regeneration organisations. He is experienced in all aspects of such work including appropriate legal structures, governance and funding arrangements and has advised on a number of community buy outs under land reform legislation. In addition Mark has established himself as a leading advisor in relation to community renewable energy and acted as the principal advisor in the recent project establishing a wind farm on Tiree and has also been closely involved in one of the first ever community owned wind farm in Scotland on the Isle of Gigha.
He has extensive experience working with housing associations involved in merger and partnership working situations. Mark has recently worked with the Scottish Federation of Housing Associations and the Scottish Housing Regulator drafting new model rules for housing associations.
Mark has published a number of articles on governance and charity law issues. In addition he has been a frequent speaker at conferences and seminars and has been involved in the training programme for charity regulator staff.
