Ruth joined TC Young in June 2004 and gained an understanding in all areas of housing law before opting to specialise in litigation. During her time with the firm, she has been active in a wide range of court actions involving factoring; repairs; improvements and maintenance; interdicts; rent arrears; antisocial behaviour including antisocial behaviour orders; succession and debt recovery.
She has extensive Sheriff Court experience throughout Scotland and represents housing providers, letting agents and private landlords on a weekly basis in Glasgow and the surrounding areas. In particular, she has significant experience in actions for eviction and has conducted numerous evidential hearings on behalf of clients. She liaises with both tenants and their agents on a regular basis and is considerably skilled in negotiating and resolving disputes. As part of her work, Ruth has frequent contact with housing providers and landlords whether simply reporting back after a hearing, or to provide specific advice on the merits of any court action. An excellent communicator, she is particularly adept at answering queries regarding the court process, ensuring that housing officers and landlords fully understand the impact and cost of any actions, and likely timescales.
She takes an active role in co-ordinating seminars on housing management issues for clients and housing professionals. This has resulted in her being a key speaker at a number of external seminars dealing with this subject. She also leads training sessions for the Scottish Association of Landlords throughout Scotland on evictions, recovery of possession and small claims.
