What we do

Social Housing

Housing Associations are at varying stages in their evolution. Some are well established and are looking for more commercial structures and/or a wider role in their communities beyond housing management, others are newly established. Many are looking at charitable status to help them achieve their objectives over the coming years and a significant number are moving towards community ownership. The sector has experienced considerable growth in the past and it is expected that this will continue in the foreseeable future. As the sector develops, governing legislation will also evolve.

Whatever the status of the organisation, its every move will require the input of a qualified legal advisor – an expert in the field.

Housing Law has a multitude of strands – property acquisition and sales, Development site assembly, commercial leasing, environmental law, land reform, Funding, commercial contracts, construction law, shared ownership, right to buy sales land disputes, employment law as well as dealing with issues such as homelessness, evictions, anti social behaviour, governance, stamp duty and new model rules.

TC Young's long and involved relationship with Social Housing means we have widened our range of expertise on offer to meet the developing needs of our clients. Chambers and the Legal 500 have between them said that TC Young and our partners are: 'technically good and easy to get on with', 'untouchable in tenancy law', 'expert in constitutional and procedural issues in housing organisations' and 'appreciative of the nuances of the sector'.
