Private Landlords and Letting Agents

TC Young's LetLaw team represents an increasing number of landlords and lettings agents; helping them to understand a landlord’s legal responsibilities, and working alongside them to minimise the risks associated with the day-to-day aspects of running their business.

Recognised as experts in their field TC Young were selected as one of the first firms in Scotland to set up working partnerships with local authorities to provide training on landlord legal issues and good practice. Since then we have provided training for:  Angus, Scottish Borders, Stirling, Edinburgh City and East Lothian Councils. In addition we have a strong working relationship with the Scottish Association of Landlords, (an organisation representing landlords across Scotland) and have delivered training on their behalf throughout Scotland.

RECOMMENDED HOUSING EXPERTS
Our expertise in this sector has also been recognised externally by the Private Rented Housing Panel (helping tenants and landlords to resolve their differences), with both Jim Bauld and Andrew Cowan appointed legal members.  With many years of housing law experience TC Young are recognised by several leading publications as experts in the housing field; this means we can help with all aspects of Scottish Tenancy law, including: tenant evictions, short assured tenancy agreements, non-payment of rent, anti social behaviour and landlord rights and registration.

KEEPING UP TO DATE WITH LEGAL CHANGES
Private landlords play a vital role in providing accommodation to households throughout Scotland and are recognised as an important contributor to the housing infrastructure of the country.  But with increasing legislative changes there is an increasing onus on keeping up to date.   TC Young's LetLaw team of experienced solicitors will give you practical and realistic advice and keep up to date with the latest legislation.

·         Are you aware of your legal requirements under the Private Landlord Registration Scheme?
·         Are you prepared for the Tenancy Deposit Scheme and what you need to do to comply?
·         Do you know how the Private Rented Housing (Scotland) Bill will affect you when it is introduced in 2012?

We also host training sessions to tackle the most common tenant problems encountered by landlords. We have guided many clients through a maze of tenancy law and tenancy agreements, and advise on tenancy law daily. If you have any concerns, get in touch, we’d like an opportunity to help.
