What we do

Charities

Organisations with charitable status have had to grapple with significant changes to their operations and reporting as a result of the introduction of legislation and revised accounting requirements. The Charities and Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 is now in force and charities are being encouraged to review every aspect of their day to day operations, policies and procedures as well as looking at the roles, responsibilities and obligations of their charity trustees and the governance of their charity as a whole.

For organisations aspiring to charitable status, acceptance that their aims and objectives meet the new charity and public benefit test as administered by the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator OSCR is a pre requisite. Our experience can assist organisations meeting the challenges and dispelling the myths surrounding compliance. Many issues frequently facing charities, including the question of trading, setting up subsidiaries, land ownership and use, require careful consideration and recourse to specialist advice.

TC Young has considerable expertise in this sector and we provide our clients with focused advice to meet their needs. Mark Ewing is accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as a specialist in Charity Law.
