Before we all down tools for Christmas, it might be an idea to think about what sort of “resolutions” you wish to make for your business in the coming year. Sometimes, the personnel issues are the ones that go to the bottom of a to-do list so now is a good time to think of what you are looking to achieve.
- Ensure your contracts and policies are up-to-date
One area that tends to go to the bottom of a to-do list is contracts and policies. But it is important that these documents are updated and fit for purpose. Do you need to revisit job descriptions? Have contracts been updated to take into account any promotions or changes to working patterns? It is a good idea to start the year with all your documentation in the right place.
- Consider any recruitment requirements
Are you looking to expand your organisation in 2019? If so it is beneficial to start thinking about how you are going to recruit for any vacancies. It is important to carefully work out the number of new staff and the skills you will require, including how vacant roles might have to change and ensure any advertising for new positions is done without discriminating.
- Training needs
You might decide that 2019 is the year where you want to ensure that managers and staff receive appropriate training. Do you have staff that have taken on managerial responsibility but have no idea how to deal with performance or disciplinary issues? Now is the time to think about this and decide how you wish to handle these issues. We are able to provide bespoke training to meet your needs so please contact us to discuss this.
- Be ahead of the game
2018 saw the #metoo movement gain momentum across the world and this is unlikely to change in the coming year. It is essential for all employers to be aware of equality and diversity issues and ensure that they will not fall foul of discrimination claims. TC Young are producing an online equality, diversity and inclusion training programme which will launch in early 2019 so please get in touch if you wish further information on this.
We hope that the coming year brings your business success and if you require any assistance in achieving your HR resolutions then please get in contact with a member of the Employment Team.
