Scottish Wills - We Are Here to Help

We will donate 10% of the fee to local foodbanks.

Ensuring you have a Will in place not only means that you can decide who you wish to inherit your estate, but it also provides peace of mind and comfort for both you and your family, knowing that your affairs are in order.

The current Coronavirus pandemic has brought into sharp focus the importance of providing for our families should the worst happen. Just because you cannot meet face to face with a solicitor at the moment, does not mean you cannot put a Will in place.

We are here to help.

We are happy to advise on the processes required to put a Will in place or simply to update your current Will. We are also happy to provide some simple guidance on Inheritance Tax planning.

In terms of the practical steps required, the Law Society of Scotland has issued some helpful guidance. We are able to take your instructions via telephone, email or FaceTime and, thereafter, would provide you with a draft of your Will, preferably by email.

Once the draft has been issued to you we would then, ideally, arrange a video or FaceTime call with you in order to have a virtual meeting. If we are satisfied that you have the relevant capacity to make a Will and are not being placed under any undue pressure to do so by anyone else, we would then have you sign this during the video or FaceTime call.

A Will needs to be witnessed. However, we appreciate that given these unprecedented times, finding a witness will likely be a challenge. Helpfully, one of our solicitors can act as a witness via the video call. You would then return your Will to us and the relevant solicitor would add their signature as your witness.

At the moment, we are all adapting to different ways of working and discovering the “new normal”. However, our clients remain at the heart of everything we do and we look forward to being able to assist you through these challenging times.

At these difficult times, we are more aware than ever of the financial challenges faced by many and so we promise to donate 10% of your fee for putting a Will in place to a foodbank local to our Glasgow or Edinburgh offices.

Should you wish to discuss putting a Will in place or updating your current Will, please contact us.
