Rona Macleod is a litigator with nine years’ experience in the housing sector. She is an Associate Solicitor in the litigation team and joined TC Young in February 2025.
Rona undertook her undergraduate law degree at the University of Edinburgh, graduating in 2015. She then undertook the Diploma in Professional Legal Practice at the University of Glasgow and graduated in 2016. Thereafter she commenced her legal traineeship working primarily in housing law in a Glasgow-based law centre. Rona spent her traineeship and the next seven years working in housing law both at the law centre and another housing law charity.
In 2023 Rona commenced a Masters Degree in Professional Legal Practice at the University of Strathclyde. Her research focused on the extent to which the Equality Act 2010 offers a defence to streamlined eviction actions. Rona is set to graduate with distinction in July 2025.
Rona’s experience in housing law has spanned a variety of areas, including:

- advising homeless people on their rights

- seeking judicial review to uphold these rights

- litigating evictions in both the private and social sector

- advising on tenancy related issues like dampness and disrepair

- mortgage repossession actions
She has conducted a number of complex evidential hearings particularly on issues of anti-social and criminal convictions, and has been instructed in cases with complex public law and technical defences. Due to this experience Rona has a particular interest in litigating in these areas. She was instructed in a recent successful challenge to an eviction action where the case was defended on the basis of the Human Rights Act 1998 and the Equality Act 2010.
Due to her experience in housing law Rona has provided training in housing law in a variety of settings including through the Legal Services Agency and the Scottish Legal Action Group.
