Tenancy Advice

Our experienced staff collectively provide unrivalled knowledge and technical expertise on Scottish Tenancy Law and offer a range of tenancy advice on a daily basis. We provide a comprehensive legal service on all aspects of tenancy management in Scotland, from setting up a tenancy agreement to terminating one. We act for Registered Social Landlords, private landlords, letting agents and local authorities throughout Scotland.

Tenancy Agreements

We give advice on the preparation and wording of different types of tenancy agreements. Our team are able to advise on Scottish secure tenancy agreements, assured and short assured tenancies, and the private residential tenancy. We have been called upon by local authorities, landlord organisations, Registered Social Landlords (and their subsidiaries) to prepare and revise different styles of standard tenancy agreements.

We regularly advise landlords on issues arising from all aspects of tenancy management including antisocial behaviour, rent arrears, debt recovery and a landlords duty of repairs.

Private landlord and letting agents

For private landlords and letting agents, we like to get involved at an early stage prior to the commencement of the tenancy. We guide landlords and letting agents through the statutory obligations imposed upon them including:

  • Anti-social behaviour
  • Energy performance certificates
  • Gas and electrical regulations
  • HMO licensing
  • Private residential tenancy
  • Landlord and letting agent registration
  • Letting agent code of conduct
  • Repairing Standard
  • Short assured tenancies
  • Tenancy deposit scheme

Registered Social Landlords and Local Authorities

Working within the housing sector for over 40 years has given us a real understanding of the challenges Registered Social Landlords (RSLs) and local authorities face. For RSLs and local authorities, we are involved in the entire spectrum of housing management matters including dealing with anti-social behaviour, factoring, rent arrears, succession, gas maintenance and service charges.
