About the Training
Developing quality affordable homes to meet housing need has always been at the heart of what housing associations do. The Scottish Government’s 50,000 homes programme and an uplift in the HAG benchmark has encouraged many associations to get back into the development of new homes, while others have significantly increased their new build programmes.
While this is positive news for the sector, development is a complex and inherently risky business as highlighted by the SHR’s Development Thematic Study. This is particularly true at a time when there is a major acceleration in the affordable housing supply programme following a period when reduced grant levels led many associations to stop developing new homes.
This training session will look at some of the main risks associated and ask how can an association’s staff team and its board mitigate those risks.
- Understanding risk and how to mitigate it
- Land and title investigation and due diligence
- The missives
- Skills and experience of staff team, board and consultants/advisers
- Building contract terms including use of warranties and indemnities
